In the Sacrament of
Penance the faithful “obtain from God’s mercy pardon for having offended
Him and at the same time reconciliation with the Church, which they have
wounded by the sins and which by charity, example and prayer seek their
conversion” (Rite of Penance #4).
Followers of
Christ who have sinned but who, by the prompting of the Holy Spirit,
come to the Sacrament of Penance should above all be wholeheartedly
converted to God. This inner conversion embraces sorrow for sin and
intent to lead a new life (Contrition). It is expressed through
confession made to the church, due expiation, and amendment of life
(Acts of Penance). God grants pardon for sin through the church which
works by the ministry of priests (Absolution), (Rite of Penance #6).
A Renewal on
Reconciliation is held each year in the parish. There is a four-week
series to assist all in the parish in deepening their relationship with
our merciful and loving God.
Families with
children preparing for First Reconciliation participate in the Renewal
on Reconciliation and an orientation session on the Tuesday before the
Renewal of Reconciliation begins. Each session begins with prayer.
Following prayer, children participate in age appropriate sessions while
parents and all other adults and adolescents are in session with guest
speakers.
Catechesis for
Children follows Diocesan policy with preparation beginning at
catechetical age. Preparation for Reconciliation takes place before
First Holy Communion. Parents are urged to have their children
participate in the Renewal on Reconciliation and Reconciliation
Catechesis on a continual basis.
When you register
for First Holy Communion you will automatically be registered for
Reconciliation Catachesis.
Adults who are
receiving Communion and want Catechesis on the Sacrament of
Reconciliation, please call Marianne Rhode at (407) 277-1702.
